Monthly breast self-examinations are one of the simplest things you can do to stay connected to your body. When you know how your breasts normally look and feel, it can be easier to notice changes that may otherwise go undetected.
And don’t do it alone. If you have a partner, invite them to be part of the routine. A second set of eyes—and hands—can sometimes notice something you might not.
I know this from experience. My second breast cancer diagnosis was discovered because my partner noticed a change.
Take a few minutes each month to check in with yourself. Know your normal. Notice what’s different. And if you find a change that concerns you, speak with your healthcare professional.
